Top 3 Engagement Photo Locations in New Jersey

You’ve said YES to your other half?!! Congratulations!!!! This is hands down one of the most exciting times in your story to truly remember and celebrate.

Now on to the planning of the wedding, but FIRST…your engagement session!

If you’re lucky enough to live in New Jersey you may already be thinking of a few spots that are really popular for engagement sessions that maybe your friends and family have suggested or even done themselves, but this is YOUR engagement session and I am about to give you a few that maybe you haven’t heard of.

As a New Jersey Photographer, I know we are blessed with the best greenery, foliage, rolling hills, and beaches around. I always think of gorgeous open fields and farmlands, the New York City skyline, and small quaint towns no one has ever really heard of- that is quintessential New Jersey in my eyes.

And if you love all of those pieces of this state and want to incorporate them into your engagement session someway- this is for you.

I have been lucky enough to photograph plenty of New Jersey Engagements so I am about to give you my top three favorite low key engagement photo locations that maybe you haven’t thought of yet!

If you’re from New Jersey then you know how beautiful it truly is. And you might even be wondering about some of the secret little nooks where you can celebrate this engagement and capture the beauty of both you and your other half and the scenery around you.

So I am here to give you allllllll of the best places that are low key but romantic as your go-to New Jersey Engagement Photographer.

1. Frenchtown in Hunterdon County, New Jersey

I know what you’re thinking…a small town?

Really, Tay? UHM yes really!!!

This little boutique town is so quintessential New Jersey and the cutest spot for an engagement session. It is right on the water with the bridge that connects you to Pennsylvania (p.s. If you’ve ever seen the movie A Walk to Remember this is your time to fulfill the dream of being in two places at once- I legit cry at the romance of this okay!!).

Beyond that, it has the cutest antique shops, a bakery to stop in at and get some sweets before, after or during your session (hello, Honeymoon Bakery), and great small side roads to explore that make for some perfect off-the-beaten path engagement session photos.

2. Round Valley Reservoir area in Clinton, New Jersey

This engagement photo location is a bit more seasonal and meant for Summer, Fall, Spring time, but if you want to go with the snow falling that could be seriously gorgeous too.

I love this area for a few reasons:

  • he water (duh) there is so much to have fun with and play around when you’re near water- it also just adds this peace to the session that you can’t get anywhere else.

  • It’s not very crowded usually and you can have the reservoir all to yourself if you pick the right time.

  • And if you go in the spring time you have a good chance of seeing the Cherry Blossoms and those are absolutely stunning so I highly recommend trying to plan around that if you can!

This next spot is somewhere you might have heard of already so apologies if you have…..

3. Your home

This is my favorite out of all the ones I listed. And don’t worry, I totally have not stalked you and seen your home…yet.

But in all seriousness, if you’re looking for a place that feels like YOU, is low key, and doesn’t require any extra planning other than picking up the laundry off the floor (or not..depends how real we want to be here cause I am all for it) then home is the place for you.

As an in-home photographer, I absolutely love when my engagement couples want to do their session within the walls of their home and bake, snuggle, dance, or whatever the heck feels true to them.

The photos always come out so real, sentimental, and truly beautiful.

There you go kids- the top three low key places for your engagement photo locations in New Jersey. If you’re still not sure- ask your photographer or look at the reviews on the location before you commit. There is no harm in doing too much research.

And before you go, don’t forget to look at opening + closing times, permit rules, and other regulations beforehand so that you’re fully prepared and nothing pops up at the last minute that takes away from the joy of your session. But at the end of the day make sure to choose something that feels authentic to you both as a couple.

I am so grateful to have been able to explore all of these gorgeous locations with my engagement couples here in New Jersey because there is truly no other place I would want to call home.
